  • Self-Declaration for some wireless equipment

    The WPC (Wireless Planning Coordination),of India, has lately released on the gazette from 23th of February a new policy for ETA (Equipment Type Approval) through Self-Declaration Scheme, WPC Approval is a mandatory requirement for all wireless radio modules (Transceivers, Transmitters and Receivers).

    The categories for wireless equipment in license exempted bands:

    Smart Phones, mobile handsets, notepads, laptops, smart watches, short range devices (including accessories, microphones, speakers, headphones, earphones, printers, scanners, cameras) etc. which operate in license exempted bands as per Indian National Frequency Allocation Plan(NFAP):

  • Update TEC Logo

    The Indian Authority (Telecommunication Engineering Center) has published on their website new labeling requirements.

    According to the labelling Guidelines:

    “The height of TEC logo shell be ¼ of the size of the brand name, subject to a minimum height and of 12mm

    The TEC logo can be engraved, raised, embossed or debossed or printed label affixed.

    If the TEC logo is color printed and affixed, then the color composition given in the attached figure  (figure) (RGB=0,108,156) must be maintained with no significant variation in color.

    However, black and white label is also permitted (colored=black, white=white).”

  • MTCTE Launches New Online Platform in Public Trial

    The Indian Ministry of Communication is organizing the next workshop tomorrow in Guwahati to introduce the MTCTE to stakeholders and give a demonstration of the new online portal, now available for trial: https://mtcte.tec.gov.in/

  • India opens market for 24 GHz Automotive Radar

    Important News for Automotive Radar manufacturer!

    The Indian Authority released on 2018-10-18 in the new Gazatte India following information: type approval is now possible for 24 GHz according to the Harmonized European Standard and EN 302 858.

    Part of the publication:

    "...transport and traffic telematics device means the device that are used in the field of transport, traffic management, navigation, mobility management and in intelligent transport systems for interfaces between different modes of transport, communication between vehicles, between vehicles and fixed locations as well as communication from and to users.."

  • Regulatory Update

    As annonced in our Regulatory News dated 2018-07-05 concerning the Mandatory Testing and Certification of Telecom Equipments (MTCTE),the Indian Department of Telecommunications started implementing TEC mandatory approval on 2018-10-01, as part of a progressive roll out scheme for ‘all types of telecom equipment to be sold in India for being connected or capable of being connected to Indian telecom network’.

    However, the annouced TEC online portal is not released yet. We will inform as soon as applications can be submitted online.


  • Mandatory testing and certification by TEC

    TEC, India's Telecommunication Engineering Centre, will be responsible for the approval of any telecommunication equipment - they have released the final document Mandatory Testing and Certification of Telecom Equipments (MTCTE). Beginning October 2018, such certification will have to be done prior to importation and will be nominally limited to 5 years. Devices for the phone network will follow the Simplified Certification Scheme (SCS),whereas packet switching devices will be subject to the General Certification Scheme (GCS).

  • In-Country Branch Office Requirement

    India tightens its regulations on foreign applicants, requiring:

    - a liaison office or branch office located within the country and meeting all liabilities and obligations according to the BIS Act of 1986 and the Rules and Regulation for the purpose of registration,

    - a member from this office to be nominated to act as the Authorized Indian Representative (AIR). 


  • Delicensing of Frequency Bands

    Due to the delicensing of the following frequency bands (published on 2015-09-16 by India’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology),it is now possible to Type Approve equipment operating in these frequency bands. A licence is not required from any person to establish, maintain, work on, possess or deal with any of the wireless equipment listed.

  • BIS Certification Deadline Extended to January 2014

    The deadline for Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification on imported electronics products has been extended until 2014.


  • SAR Update for Mobile Phones

    The Telecommunication Department of the Indian Ministry of Communications released an update regarding SAR (Specific Absorbtion Rate) for cell phones.
    This release from 2012-08-17 foresees the following:
    From 2012-09-01, new handsets must not exceed a SAR of 1.6 W/kg average on 1 g of tissue. Existing handsets benefit from a one-year grace period; approved mobile handsets with SAR Value of 2.0 W/kg over 10 g tissue are allowed to be sold until September 2013, but then any mobile handset must comply.

    Aditionally,

    •  SAR value must be shown on the IMEI display;
    • Mobiles must support hands-free operating;
    • Compliance must be declared by the manufacturer, based on test reports (either ILAC or TEC).
